Built for children, so safety is the design

TutorLumi is used by children as young as seven. That shapes every decision we make, from how the tutor speaks to where your family's data lives. This page explains the whole picture in plain terms.

What you can see as a parent

• Every conversation your child has with the tutor, in full, from your own account. We built the parent view before almost anything else.
• Every piece of homework, every mock exam and every mark.
• A weekly email summary of what each child worked on, if you want one.

How the tutor behaves

• It never gives the answer. It teaches by asking questions, the way a good tutor does.
• It sticks to schoolwork. It is built to stay within an age-appropriate learning scope, and to resist attempts to talk it out of its rules.
• It speaks to each age properly: gently and playfully with primary children, straightforwardly with teenagers.
• It never pretends to be human.
• It will never ask a child for personal information. If a child shares something personal anyway, it is not used to build a profile, and it stays inside the conversation record that you can read in full.

If a child says something worrying

Children sometimes tell a tutor things they find hard to say elsewhere. If a child writes something that suggests they are upset or unsafe, TutorLumi responds calmly and kindly, encourages them to speak to their parent or another trusted adult, and gives them the number for Childline (0800 1111). It never probes, never counsels and never promises to keep secrets.

For the most serious categories, you are alerted by email straight away and the conversation is highlighted in our admin tools. You can always read exactly what was said.

Your family's data

• Children sign in with a username and a PIN chosen by you. We never collect a child's email address, and there are no third parties in a child's sign-in.
• Your family's data is stored in the United Kingdom.
• No advertising, no tracking pixels, no selling of data. Ever.
• You can export everything we hold about your family as a single file, or delete the whole account, from your own settings. You will not need to email anyone or argue with a cancellation flow.

Sensible limits

• Every child has a daily usage allowance, so a runaway session cannot turn into unlimited screen time.
• Rewards and pocket-money features always require your approval before anything is paid out.
